The dot SE country-code TLD was started in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its launch, the registration process was quite restrictive, so a very small number of domains were obtained. Persons were permitted to obtain solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was required, i.e. only Swedish individuals, firms and organizations were able to obtain a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened significantly and, as a consequence, the number of dot SE domains has been growing each year.
